Webb & Brown-Neaves’ display home, The Amour, is a modern home inspired by the famous city of love, Paris. But a home isn’t just about the building itself; what surrounds it plays a significant role in bringing the design concept to life.

We spoke to Landscape Architect Tristan Peirce, about his inspiration behind The Amour’s magnificent landscape design both in the front and the back of the home.

“I was honoured to be engaged in designing and bringing to life the landscape spaces and pool area of Webb & Brown-Neaves’ newest display home, The Amour,” Tristan said.

Tristan took inspiration from the home itself, and its French Modern style. The monochrome colour palette, steel awnings and the Juliet-style balcony all influenced the evolution of the gardens’ design.

The Amour has a Parisian Apartment style to it, so the landscape naturally followed this theme. The garden is quite wide and open, inviting visitors to view through the home to the rear alfresco, garden and pool area.”

The garden out the back of the home is certainly one of a kind. Stepping down into the sunken courtyard, the lush surroundings create an aura of tranquillity and calm; the perfect place to spend a warm summer day.

“The rear garden is quite detailed with varying textures in the planting, and mature tree transplants to provide shade as well as a lush backdrop.”

For Tristan, a few specific features had a significant impact on the design of the landscaping. “I love the garage door, the black awnings and the contemporary steel window seat overlooking the pool.”

In the backyard itself, the standout feature is undoubtedly the pool. The tiling and the ‘land moat’ are what make it unique and adds that ‘wow’ factor to the home.

“The pool is a key component of the landscape. It is fully tiled in a black tile with white highlights that are typical of the French design. As the courtyard is relatively small, I designed a ‘land moat’ to act as a pool fence that minimised the visual clutter of traditional pool fencing.”

If you’re thinking of incorporating a fully tiled pool into your home, you can do so without breaking the bank.

“The cost of a fully tiled pool has recently become more affordable and this is a superior finish to the traditional render finish. This is a trend I expect to see increasing in popularity in the architecture world going forward.”

Another trend Tristan has incorporated is mixing different types of plants to create a jungle-like feel.

“Mixing varying forms of green foliage and forms of planting is a current trend that the rear garden of this home reflects.”

The landscaping complements the house extremely well, creating a unique work of art within the streets of Salter Point.

“The landscaping and pool are quite unique, and the alternative pool fencing keeps the rear garden open. The trees are mature, and planting is full and eclectic (in the pool garden). The rear pavements have been laid in a subtle pattern and a unique format giving it a sophistication noticed as you move through the home.”
