THE LUCEN

The Lucen is guided by the quiet influence of illumination, orientation and environmental awareness. The architecture explores a contemporary interpretation of the mid-century coastal house, where material honesty, horizontal lines and a restrained palette of stone, timber and glazing establish a calm connection between the home and its coastal surroundings. Central to the design is a commitment to responsible living. Orientation, natural ventilation and spatial efficiency shape the planning, allowing daylight and coastal breezes to move effortlessly through the home. Generous openings, layered screening and carefully positioned glazing maximise natural light while supporting thermal comfort, reducing reliance on artificial lighting and mechanical cooling. The result is a home that performs efficiently while maintaining a warm and grounded material character.

The lower level forms the centre of daily life, where kitchen, dining and living spaces unfold with openness and clarity. A carefully considered kitchen and scullery support both entertaining and family life, while large sliding openings connect the interior to the outdoors. A sunken lounge anchors the living zone, creating an intimate gathering space inspired by mid-century living. Privately positioned, the primary bedroom offers a peaceful retreat with a generous walk-in robe and light-filled ensuite. Upstairs, the home transitions to a quieter family zone where bedrooms, guest accommodation and a study are arranged around a relaxed sitting space that opens to the balcony. Elevated outlooks, filtered light and external screening contribute to both comfort and privacy, while reinforcing the home’s relationship with the surrounding coastal environment.
