Naomi Wallace and her family moved into their dream home in late 2017.

Location was a major factor for the Wallace Family, who decided to knock-down and rebuild on a block in West Leederville.

“The location is perfect,” Naomi said. “We are walking distance to the city, and close to Subiaco and Leederville. We have easy access to busses and trains, we’re close to the freeway, and 10 minutes away from the beach. Plus, there is the beautiful Lake Monger which we use all the time.”

Naomi and her family originally looked at established homes in the area, but couldn’t find exactly what they were looking for.

“A lot of the homes in the area that were available at the time would have required renovation,” she said. “Initially we were going to extend and renovate the original house on the block, but in the end, this became cost prohibitive.”

They decided to knock down an old home, and build their dream home in their ideal location. Choosing Webb & Brown-Neaves’ demo and build service was a no-brainer.

“We found the knock-down rebuild process to be very smooth. Webb & Brown-Neaves were experienced and organised, and they kept us informed every step of the way.”

When it came to designing their dream home, location influenced their decision to build a single-storey home. “We didn’t want anything that stuck out too much from the period houses in the area, so kept to a single-storey home which sits down and away from the street,” Naomi said. “As a family we love the single level as it feels more together for us.”

“We’ve kept all the sleeping areas together and then have maximised the east-west length of the block to bring the northern light into all of the living areas as well as providing some natural shade in summer.”

The Wallace Family decided to build a kids’ area in the roof, a design decision that would allow them to make the most of their space.

“Our local council has a requirement that each new home has to have a pitched roof. We decided to build into this ‘dead’ space to create a kid’s area. It’s a huge room hidden in the roof with skylights. The kids love it up there and have lots of playdates and sleepovers.”

The Wallace Family decided to build with Webb & Brown-Neaves after reading online reviews and listening to friends’ experiences.

“I liked having a one stop shop for everything as we had never built before and didn’t intend to do so again,” Naomi said.

“Through the build, regular updates from our Site Manager meant we always knew what was happening from week to week. Nothing was too much trouble for Webb & Brown-Neaves.”
