The great outdoors is home to some of life’s greatest memories. Fresh air and freedom beckon in The Nest.

We spoke with Landscape Architect, Tristan Peirce about the inspiration behind the Nest’s landscape design.

“My aim with The Nest was to design landscape spaces that seamlessly flowed from the inside of the home to the outside, treating the whole block as a living space,” he said.

The Nest’s landscape design is curved in nature, drawing from the large curved stone entry all the way to the back of the home where you will find the standout circular fire pit and lawn space.

“We had fun with the design to create interesting spaces designed for play, bringing the whole family together.”

Much like the home’s interior, The Nest’s outdoor space has been designed to cater for varying age groups. Kids can enjoy the freedom of playing across the lawn and alfresco spaces while parents watch on from the fire pit or continue entertaining through the stunning servery giving direct access to the kitchen.

“The home caters to family and friend gatherings where large groups can entertain together, but still spread across different spaces.”

Upon entry in to the home you will notice a series of platforms and steps that are used to create interest to the façade of the home.

“The Nest uses levels to create interest to the front of the home, breaking away from the normal rectangular façade seen.”

Throughout the home you will find references to the outdoors, particularly in the kitchen where the window servery brings the outside in, both visually and physically.

“Looking through the kitchen space, it leads you through to the circular seating area and across to the circular lawn spaces.”

Moving to the upper level, The Nest also includes a raised planting area which drapes over the front façade of the home to compliment the slate stonework and provides a leafy outlook for the ‘screenagers’ retreat.

Incorporating nature into the design of this home works to improve both mental and physical wellbeing. Landscaping that intertwines with the design of a home provides an environment of total relaxation.

“The raised planting area on the upper level is the perfect spot for taking a mental break.”

When deciding how to incorporate landscaping into your new home, Tristan recommends thinking about how you will live in each space to get the most out of your home and garden.

“The Nest’s landscape design includes key areas such as generous lawn space for small children and pets as well as built-in seating space as a conversation area for the older members of the family,” he said.

From the entry to the backyard, The Nest exudes fun through its exploration of colour and texture.
