When designing your dream home, it’s easy to lose sight of your vision. A mood board is a great way to keep all your ideas in one place, and ensure you don’t lose sight of your dream home throughout the design process.
We spoke to Webb & Brown-Neaves Interior Design Consultant Melissa Redwood about the importance of mood boards in home design.
“Mood boards are extremely beneficial to my job, and I use them for every single home that I do,” she said. “With each display home or client home that I work on, I always put the whole concept together onto a mood board.”
“It’s a great way to pull everything together and ensure that each piece compliments the other.”
Mood boards can either be physical or created online, each having different benefits.
“My mood boards can either be physical (which will then live in the back of my car for the length of the project), or electronic, such as Pinterest, which is an online photo sharing application where you can collect and store all your favourite images and styles.”
Pinterest, a social media channel designed to help users find inspiration from photographs, is a great place to start when visualising your dream home,” Melissa said.
“It is such a user-friendly application, where you can create individual folders, making it so much easier to find things when you require them.”
When it comes to building your dream home, Pinterest can really come in handy in the Selection Meeting.

It is an exciting time for anyone embarking on their dream home building journey. Creating mood boards on Pinterest to share with your Selection Consultant is a great way to make sure your visions are being understood, and you don’t lose sight of your dream home.
“Pinterest is so handy when it comes to Selections, because you can help the WB staff to visualise exactly what look you are trying to achieve,” Melissa said.
“Selection Meetings can sometimes be a little overwhelming, as there is a huge number of decisions to make. Having Pinterest at your disposal means that you can refer to it when trying to describe how you want a particular area to look.”
