Narrow Block Broad Vision
Mike and Sarah Bell, and their daughter Indi, had been living over east and had spent time planning their return to WA. After being land-locked in Canberra for almost 10 years, they had promised themselves that their next family home would be within walking distance to the beach.
“We initially thought we would buy an old place and renovate, but after doing some number-crunching we decided that would not be a cheap exercise,” said Sarah. “So we thought, why not build, have a brand new place and avoid the stamp duty?”
Mike was on deployment with the Australian Defence Force in Afghanistan when Sarah found a block in North Beach for sale. It was a small block but the beachside location made the decision to buy it easy.
“We contacted Webb & Brown-Neaves because they cater to small, narrow blocks."
According to Sarah, the building process was a smooth one, and most of it happened while they were still in Canberra. “We had a clear view of what to expect at each stage,” she said. “What made it easy was the regular contact and feedback from the Webb & Brown-Neaves team – and this continued when we returned to Perth.”
“We’ve always been ‘just do it’ kind of people – and this time our impulsiveness paid off. The perception of Webb & Brown-Neaves being an expensive builder is not the case; we feel our money has been well spent and invested.”
The Bells worked with our team to tweak The Ultimo home to fit their needs. “We came up with a 3 x 2 home that’s like Doctor Who’s Tardis. Once you step through the door it’s quite palatial! It’s split level so the ceilings are very high, creating a great sense of space.”
